Well, the title says it all - how are traders judging the value of minis now?  I was pondering a trade with a member and couldn't find the online price guide.Â

The only reference to trade values that I saw was an eBay buy it now and auction price guide from last July.  I know that the last online price guide that

Madda did was back in December, and that was fine to use for the first few months of 2008, but what are traders using now?  I see that trades are still

being made; perhaps they are using current buy it now or auction prices that they are averaging themselves...

Well for most of the older minis, the prices have been pretty stable for some time in the guide so anything from the earlier sets (first 8 or so) can probably be considered still reasonably valid. New sets tend to flucuate a lot more as the relative nature and value of the minis settles in. Rarely if you are using one of the reasonable vendors as a baseline for "value" would you be too far off.

Built the addition for this addiction, now on to the "gaming table" project....

Auggie's BuySite makes things fairly straightforward also.

Really Stephen? I don't find buy sites at all helpful...the prices are always very low (obviously, the ppl buyin 'em expect to make a profit when they sell)...

The point would be not for "absolute value" but for relative value.Â

IF the buy sute offers you $2 for Mini X and $4 for mini Y, then it is reasonable to conclude that the relative value is 2 to 1 for trading purposes.  The values in the price guides were just the averages of the selling prices from those sites.  So again the RELATIVE values are what always were important.

This' true, and if you check Auggie's Sell site, it's one of the cheapest out there, and he combines shipping.
Most of my loose buys are from Auggie's.

My method takes some effort, but I generally find it to be pretty acurate.

My basis is using the median value of actually-sold domestic completed eBay sales, not including shipping. If there are no sales or only one or two, I will compare with the lowest currently active BIN. If the BIN is lower, I take that value. If the BIN is higher, I average the values together.

To see how I do it, search for a mini (I will limit it to Toys & Hobbies-> Games if there are other similarly named listings). On the left-hand side, check the box marked "Completed" and then click "Show Items" below it. From the drop-down for sorting in the top right, select "Price: highest first".

Count the number of sales. Red-numbered sales values don't count (they didn't sell). I also do not count International values (anything in italics) because it can skew the values significantly. If the number of values is odd, find the largest number that will go into it twice and add one, count that far down the list of valid values and that's your value. If the number is even, divide the value by two, count that value down the list, add that value to the next value below it, and divide by two. That's your value.

It's not completely fool-proof but I've only had one person complain about my computed values so far (and yes, as was pointed out, it provides more of a ratio of values than anything; so long as you use the same site and method for all of the minis, the sides will become equal).

Cheers!
