| I have a one off next monday instead of our usual campaign... Using Martial powers what is your new favorite 1st level build? I am leaning towards a Warlord... give me the goods... my copy should arrive tommarow or the next day so I'll post and keep everyone posted. But until then build build build away.
Rules: only PHB races method 2 for stats Use your imagination. Let's see what Martial Powers can really do!

| and my 2000 post is about a warlord...
So Bravua Warlord... What race? Using method 2 from the PHB what can you do?
at wills the one that is 1[w] + str and enemy makes an att against you and an ally makes a basic att which other one?
What else?
Lend might as a feat sounds like a big bonus (+1 att for all extra atts you grant). | | Rock Bottom Pricing: Arcane Archer 30, Centaur Hero 67, Human Cleric of Bane 25, Gold Champion 34, Death Knight 52, Goblin Blackblade 9, Silentwolf Goblin 7, Orc Raider 10, Dwarf axefighter 9, Healer 9, Thaskor 65, Aspect of Demogorgon 71, Ogre 9, Fire Giant 79, Human Wanderer 7, Drunken Master 18, Barghest 12, Longstider Barbarian 27, Longtooth Barbarian 22, Frost Giant 76, Ravenous Vampire 42, Large Earth Elemental: priceless

| So my problem with the Bruvura Warlord is as follows:
Brash att is awesome but it does trade you're hp for a basic att. In many cases this will work out in your favor in some it will now (especially at low levels). There are two ways to go about this:
1) accept that you're going to get hit and do as much dmg in return as possible. Use chainmail, no shield, and a big 2 handed weapon with as big a profiency bonus as you can get (I favor falchion as it is +3 slightly higher dmg than a longsword and high crit) and have your ac be 14 after you consider your opponent getting combat advantage against you. Use your 1 feat to take either toughness or durable or both if you're a human. Dragonborn and Human seem like the best options for race.
2) mitigate your getting hit by having a high ac by utilizing a shield and improving ac. If you're dragonborn go for scale mail (or heavy shields) and if you're human go scale mail and either toughness or durable or go full born ac boosts with plate prof (if stats allow it) or scale and heavy shield.
Which of these two will work best in your opinion?
And then comes the choice of powers... I think the Bruvura WL has to take either brash strike or opening shove. Your second at will should likely be viper strike as it still allows you to deal dmg and can grant an extra att and allows battlefield manipulation. The obvious benifit of a human is that you can choose all three and use the one that best fits the situation.
benifits of human- higher ac and or HP both are important, +1 def to make other att's hurt less, extra at will benifits of DB- better str and chr stats both are important, dragon breath, better dmg output, higher surge value.
I'm leaning towards human for a first level build but DB if it were an extended build. | | Rock Bottom Pricing: Arcane Archer 30, Centaur Hero 67, Human Cleric of Bane 25, Gold Champion 34, Death Knight 52, Goblin Blackblade 9, Silentwolf Goblin 7, Orc Raider 10, Dwarf axefighter 9, Healer 9, Thaskor 65, Aspect of Demogorgon 71, Ogre 9, Fire Giant 79, Human Wanderer 7, Drunken Master 18, Barghest 12, Longstider Barbarian 27, Longtooth Barbarian 22, Frost Giant 76, Ravenous Vampire 42, Large Earth Elemental: priceless

| Didn't get to play tonight. Did build a 1st level human bravura warlord and a dwarf battlerager fighter. I would post the builds but no one seems to be commenting or caring here lately.
Warlord- fun and the gains could be big for a well built party.
Fighter- my new default dwarf fighter build for sure. | | Rock Bottom Pricing: Arcane Archer 30, Centaur Hero 67, Human Cleric of Bane 25, Gold Champion 34, Death Knight 52, Goblin Blackblade 9, Silentwolf Goblin 7, Orc Raider 10, Dwarf axefighter 9, Healer 9, Thaskor 65, Aspect of Demogorgon 71, Ogre 9, Fire Giant 79, Human Wanderer 7, Drunken Master 18, Barghest 12, Longstider Barbarian 27, Longtooth Barbarian 22, Frost Giant 76, Ravenous Vampire 42, Large Earth Elemental: priceless

| | The battlerage vigor fighter builds are insanely good. I like the bravura warlord, but overall think the temp hp from the newer inspiring builds are better. | | | |

| | Temp HP are really a great mechanic. I agree that resourceful warlord might be the best but if you build a 2 defender, rogue or similiar party the Bravura could become better if the party really plays up the melee game and works together. Think of 2 battlerage fighters, bravura warlord, barbarian, rogue! | | Rock Bottom Pricing: Arcane Archer 30, Centaur Hero 67, Human Cleric of Bane 25, Gold Champion 34, Death Knight 52, Goblin Blackblade 9, Silentwolf Goblin 7, Orc Raider 10, Dwarf axefighter 9, Healer 9, Thaskor 65, Aspect of Demogorgon 71, Ogre 9, Fire Giant 79, Human Wanderer 7, Drunken Master 18, Barghest 12, Longstider Barbarian 27, Longtooth Barbarian 22, Frost Giant 76, Ravenous Vampire 42, Large Earth Elemental: priceless | |

Think of 2 battlerage fighters, bravura warlord, barbarian, rogue! Well, using the new martial powers abilities, I went for a slightly higher str dragonborn (17 str) cost me some Hp, but I selected grant temp hp abilities, and will apply them as I level. Brash assault and vipers strike seemed like good ideas, and I went for shielding retaliation and lead by example. If I miss my daily, I give two units within 5 attacks, and if I hit, everyone gets combat advantage. The shielding retaliation lets me choose to take an opportunity attack, so if needed, I can take a squishys hit for them, or a melee unit a little too close to dying.
Toughness as a feat is key since im already sacrificng some hp, and it will grant even more later levels. The 17 str lets me hit +6 at 4 instead of +5 and I can still gain con, which gives even more Hp. The need to hit is sometimes a pain with warlords Im told, So the best atk bonus you can gain is key. Im debaiting using a longsword for the shiled bonus, or just a great sword at level 1. Both give +3, but the extra ac sounds nicer than higher dmg. The key to the bravura is get in, hit and let them attack you. So if they miss, its not always a bad thing. I know I have a barb in the party, so extra hits for him is really nice since they can get swamped pretty fast or so Im told.
