I had such a blast at Gen Con with the new 4th edition that when it came time to play in the DDM championships or play an 8 hour RPGA Living Forgotten Realms Special, I chose the latter.

Thanks for the help in helping to create my Rogue it was so much fun! Now to get a group together!

I second your love for 4th edition, Joe! I loved 3.5, but it's never been so much fun before.

The encounters are just awesome - even as first level characters, and I love the skill challenges. Those powers really make every encounter special, and I've never anticipated future releases as much as now. What will they do about the new classes, powers and rules like animal companions?

I have a vague feeling Animal Companions will be a thing of the past; they would kind of interefere with the party role harmony that 4th ed is attempting to achieve. Druids would be my fav to see... what role will they be, I wonder? i think they'd probably end up as Strikers... have thier at will powers be minor shapeshifts for one build, or an offensive elemental caster for another. i guess we'll see!

I am guessing a Druid will be between a cleric and a wizard, with a nature twist of course.

Controller/leader type.

Makes sense, controller leader of more natural variety, with certain bonuses to specific creatures/situations.

I think you may be right.  So far the wizard's the only controller, so they'll bring in another one.

It was confirmed (at GenCon, I believe) that animal companions will be found in the coming supplement "Martial Powers".

A big YEAH for me, since this is a part I love about my tree-hugging ranger character.

Well, when they bring the sorcerer and Psion out, those are likely to be controllers as well, so then you'd have three of them.

The thing about the Druid is, there were two main aspects of them: Shapeshifting and Elemental combat. You can't switch roles with different character 'builds', and a shapeshifting Leader just doesn't sound right. IF they kept that, then Striker would be the most likely, followed closely by Leader (as they were able to heal as well). While I can picture them spell wise being controllers (I defeated an army once by judicious applications of Reverse Gravity, Control winds, and Gate--I blew the whole undead army into the positive material plane. TOTALLY pissed my DM off, lol!), I am not sure about the other aspects of it. I suppose that they could make a shapeshifter a paragon path, but having that ability from the start is great--that's why I enjoyed the PH2 version so much. I would be very sad if a Druid had to wait eleven levels to be albe to shapeshift appreciably.
