| | I have not bought any of the D&D tile sets. I saw them on Amazon recently and thought of getting some, but it appears that the very first one or two sets are no longer available except as expensive collectibles. The more recent sets look nice, but I don't want to buy them if I will be missing basic rooms and corridors which I imagine were available in the first set, and therefore I will be unable to make a basic dungeon. Do the later sets have basic rooms and corridors, or are all the later sets which are still readily available at basic retail prices only specialized pieces which are useless without the original set? | | | |

| | Well one is full of outdoorsy stuff(the best one IMO) and another is full of caverns, but the rest are all still really good for basic Dungeons. Don't think any of them are "too" niche, the rooms and corridors in Dire Tombs are just in a yellowish color. | | Champion of the Kender ckissee - "providing TPK's since 2007" Albert Einstein never once said that if the bees disappeared, "man would have only four years of life left" but the theory is a scary prospect. | |

| I know your frustration.
A few months ago, I decided to start collecting Dungeon Tiles. I too saw the exorbitant prices on amazon. In a panic, I searched eBay and found two sets of Dungeon Tiles 1 from a single seller for something like $16.00 apiece plus shipping. I ordered them, but about a week later got a refund with the explanation that the seller had made an inventory mistake (yeah, right). Luckily, a maxminis member took pity on me (THANKS, Teflon Jeff!) and sold me an extra set of his for a reasonable price.
As far as I know (I only have the first two sets so far), you don't have to have all of the sets to build a cool dungeon. I'm sure a member with all of the sets could answer this better than I.
Who knows, maybe another member will step up and help a fellow gamer out. There are some really great people here on maxminis

| Hi Everyone,
I am thankful I bought the tiles as they were released. I never thought about them from a collector's point-of-view. They are the kind of item that people would not maintain without the tiles being detatched. I punched mine out almost immediately. So I could see any unopened sets as having some good value in the future. They could become a very rare item. Of course, this is an item that WotC could reprint from time to time too.
However, it is never too late to collect them. You are not dependent on earlier tile sets for the later sets be useful.
Later,

Yes, lots of stores that you wouldn't expect to have D&D stuff might actually have the tiles. If not there's always ebay. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades.

| zoroaster100 In my opinion it is certainly not to late to start collecting. I have all the sets and have 2 of set 1 and 2. I had them in their shrinkwrap and wasn't sure about opening them, but then thought what the hell I could use the extras. I never thought they would be worth what they are. When I got these extras for a gift I put them up on my list of items for trade for minis and had no offers. I guess back them nobody realized what their value would be. Neither did I and I am sure I would have traded one of these sets for a cheap rare. If you feel you need to just get a couple of the newer sets to fill out more of what you need. All the sets have basic corridors and such and if you get more than 1 set you can more easily fill out what you need. Jump in on buying them, they will serve you well.
I don't use them for every room (I use my tact-tiles), but for the main rooms where the big battles will happen I use them. | | Give me more MIND FLAYERS!

| That would be an awesome resource, Michael. Try this: Set up an account on photobucket or another image hosting site. Upload your pics. Paste this "formula" into your reply field-
img src="http://www.yourlinkhere.com">/img
Copy and paste the link to your pic in between the quotation marks. Place a right arrow bracket < in front of img src=. Place a right arrow bracket < in front of /img, and a left arrow bracket > after /img.
That should do it

| I have bought multiple sets of every release so far (including 4 of the original). I'm stunned that these are going for such high prices on eBay (or maybe I shouldn't be - it is eBay after all! :-) ). They are very compatible with each other except Dire Tombs which is a 'sandstone' (yellow) colour and is more suited for a desert tomb/pyramid type dungeon. Also WotC has a Dungeon Tile Mapper program on their site that is the bee's knees
http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20061121t
IMO WotC's Dungeon Tiles line is one of the best 'bang for your buck' values out there. $12 for enough tiles to create a 5-6 room dungeon. Right now I could probably make a 50-60 room one without breaking a sweat! | If you're going to collect, that's cool, but DT1, as others have pointed out, is hard to get. I'd get two of each (in fact, I do!) but keeping up with them is pretty easy, they're rather inexpensive (as gaming paraphrenalia go)

As fas as the topic at hand.... It's never too later to get started. | Sets 1,2,3, and 7 are all basically interchangable. You don't specifically need any particular one to have a useful dungeon environment. Even having 2 of the 4 would work great. 4,5,and 6 are more designed for a narrow niche use. I recommend buying 2 of each if you plan on using any of them. One set of each doesn't give you enough flexibility. Of course I've bought 3 of each so far just to be a pack rat collector. :) | | Looking for someone to cosponser a midwest DDM event. let me know if your interested! | To update the Dungeon Tile sets:
Dungeon Tiles: Halls of the Giant Kings
I like the big thrones, round table and the "pit" but expected more giant- like tiles. What about cupboards? Beds? Those pictured on the tiles will hardly be enough for an orc. Just like the miniatures set, it just does not live up to its name, unfortunately. :(
Moreover, there are just too many plain tiles for me. This is the 7th or 8th set, right? Enough of stairs and plain grey tiles, please.
